5.5 tonne excavator hire in Sydney is the machine we use on a lot of house sites once the driveway is wide enough. Faster than a 1.7 tonne. Still small enough for many suburban streets. We check access before we quote.
This size takes slabs, pool holes on an open block, and most knock-downs that are not a terrace squeeze. If the gate is under what the machine needs, we drop to a 1.7 tonne and more hand work. If the site is a large cut, we look at 15 tonne. The hire follows the site, not a preference for a bigger number.
Spoil still needs trucks. Hiring the excavator without a plan for the dirt is how days get wasted. We quote the plant and the carting together if that is what you need.
Tight sites sit on 1.7 tonne excavators. Larger cuts sit on 15 tonne. Send photos of the street either way.
